Dir. Gustav Deutsch. 1998, 60 mins. 16mm. The first installment of the ambitious and ongoing found footage epic FILM IST., was this assembly including scientific and East German educational films. Deutsch wanted to show the links between scientific research and early film history. One piece of the film, originally from a Brazilian soap opera, was used by a cleaning lady "to clean the floor tiles," and picked up by Deutsch at a flea market.
