Dir. Henri Verneuil. 1975, 91 mins. 35mm print courtesy of Sony Pictures Entertainment. With Jean-Paul Belmondo, Charles Denner. From a straightforward serial killer plot, Verneuil concocts a violent, physical thrill-ride involving some of the most extraordinary stunts of Belmondo’s career: in particular a breathtaking Haussman-rooftop chase and ‘Bebel’ riding a legendary metro train at Bir-Hakeim. Second only to The Towering Inferno at the French box office in 1975.
