Museum of the Moving Image – Bartos Screening Room

Dir. David Lowery. 2009, 86 mins. Digital projection. With Savanna Sears, Tucker Sears, Monique Byars. A young brother and sister (played by real-life siblings Tucker and Susanna Sears) wander the beautiful and desolate landscape of East Texas in Lowery’s intimate, moody debut feature. St. Nick drops us into a lonely, turbulent world seen through the anxious eyes of children running from their past and fending for themselves as winter starts to set in. Preceded by Pioneer (Dir. David Lowery. 2011, 16 mins. With Will Oldham, Myles Brooks.) A warm, glowing bedroom on a stormy night: A little boy wakes from a nightmare, and wants to hear his father tell the story of his own birth and his mother. But instead of a comforting meet-cute, the tale that follows is dark and mysterious, layered with violence and the supernatural.
