Part of See It Big! Best Cinematography, in Black & White and Color
Saturday, March 3, 2018, 4:30 p.m.
Museum of the Moving Image - Redstone Theater

Dirs. Ludwig Berger, Michael Powell, Tim Whelan. 1940, 106 mins. 35mm. With Sabu, Conrad Veidt, June Duprez, John Justin. Flying horses, giant tarantulas, and an enormous genie are just a few of the dazzling fantastical images in producer extraordinaire Alexander Korda’s enchanting tour de force of imagination and special effects. A tale of the Arabian Nights brought to eye-popping Technicolor life by cinematographer George Périnal (who shot Cocteau’s The Blood of a Poet and Carol Reed’s The Fallen Idol) and starring the effortlessly charming Sabu as the title character, this is the kind of magic that needs to be seen on the big screen.
