30th Anniversary Screening
Moonstruck with John Patrick Shanley in person

Tuesday, December 19, 2017, 7:00 p.m.
Museum of the Moving Image - Redstone Theater

With John Patrick Shanley in person

Dir. Norman Jewison. 1987, 102 mins. 35mm. With Cher, Nicolas Cage, Olympia Dukakis, Vincent Gardenia, Danny Aiello. Moonstruck is one of the most magical of romantic comedies, an ensemble piece held together by the unique poetic charm of playwright John Patrick Shanley’s writing. Cher is a revelation as Loretta Castorini, a young Brooklyn widow who is supposed to marry Johnny Cammareri (Danny Aiello) but falls for his brother Ronny (Nicolas Cage). Also lovestruck is Loretta’s cynical mother Rose, unforgettably played by Olympia Dukakis. Shanley, Cher, and Dukakis all won Academy Awards. With its unique New York flavor and blend of outright comedy and charm, Moonstruck endures as a great romantic comedy. This 30th anniversary screening will be followed by a conversation with John Patrick Shanley.
