Museum of the Moving Image - Redstone Theater

Dir. Jim Henson. 1974/1982. Digital projection. Before The Muppet Show, Jim Henson brought the Muppets to prime time, directing two half-hour specials that served as pilots for the variety show Henson wanted to produce. The first of these, 1974’s The Muppets Valentine Show featured guest star Mia Farrow, who joined the Muppets for songs and sketches on the subject of love. Eight years later, after Miss Piggy became the breakout star of The Muppet Show, she received her own network TV special, directed by Jim Henson. The Divine Miss P is joined by special guests John Ritter, George Hamilton, and Tony Clifton (Andy Kaufman). Program length: 76 minutes.
