Dir. Jules Dassin. 1962, 115 mins. 35mm. With Melina Mercouri, Anthony Perkins, Raf Vallone. This little seen classic from 1962, was Jules Dassin’s follow up to Never on Sunday. Loosely based on the writings of Euripides, the film presents its classical mythological tropes in a modern setting, a world of the super rich where an obsessed woman will face the tragic consequences of a doomed love affair with her stepson. The music is by Mikis Theodorakis. (This film is in English.)
