Dir. Yannis Sakaridis. 2017, 86 mins. DCP. With Yannis Stankoglou, Makis Papadimitriou, Vassilis Kykalani. Greek submission for Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award. Acknowledged as one of the best European films to date on the subject of immigration, this bracing drama looks at the lives of three residents of an Athens neighborhood: a bar owner in love with an African singer; a Syrian refugee who turns to a human trafficker to get out of Greece; and a xenophobic nationalist determined to free his neighborhood of migrants. Preceded by Alice in the Café (Dir. Dimitris Nakos, 2017, 19 mins.) Troubled times make for troubled relationships.
