Part of The King of Zing, from Queens: A Don Rickles Tribute

Redstone Theater

Dir. Brian G. Hutton. 1970, 144 mins. Digital presentation. With Clint Eastwood, Don Rickles, Donald Sutherland, Carroll O’Connor, Telly Savalas. In this anti-war WWII caper, Clint Eastwood’s titular tight-lipped ex-lieutenant and his merry band of misfits hear about Nazi gold stashed in a bank behind enemy lines in occupied France, and go AWOL to steal it. Although a vehicle for Eastwood (the second biggest box-office star at the time), the supporting players steal the show, including Terry Savalas as master sergeant Big Joe, Donald Sutherland as hippy tank commander Oddball, and Don Rickles, the main attraction in his biggest role to date as Crapgame, a wise-cracking—of course—supply sergeant.
