With Jason Kohn in person

Dir. Jason Kohn. 2009, 85 mins. 35mm. This visually striking, darkly comedic documentary examines the phenomenon and cultural fallout of urban kidnapping in Brazil. Evoking everything from Errol Morris to 1960s shockumentaries, Jason Kohn’s debut film surveys Brazilian corruption and class warfare through the intertwined stories of a wealthy businessman, a plastic surgeon who assists savaged kidnapping victims, and a politician who derives his income from a frog farm. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and winner of three Cinema Eye Honors awards, including the first ever given for Best Cinematography, Editing, and Nonfiction Feature. "As forceful as its title suggests, and sometimes unbelievably ballsy. "—Glenn Kenny, Premiere.
