Part of Ben Wheatley: Confusion and Carnage
Saturday, October 29, 2016, 1:30 p.m.

Followed by a book signing with Adam Nayman

Dir. Ben Wheatley. 2009, 89 mins. Digital projection. With Robin Hill, Robert Hill, Julia Deakin. Wheatley’s corrosively funny feature debut is part gonzo gangster saga, part kitchen-sink-style family drama, part satire on both of the above. Fresh out of prison, a stoner father and son return to helming their family-run criminal enterprise—but first there are romantic complications, inter-family squabbling, and a pesky stool pigeon to contend with. Wheatley keeps things zippy and surprising, moving from irreverent hijinks to sudden eruptions of violence with a devilish audacity.
