Paul Thomas Anderson’s atmospheric and loyal adaption of Thomas Pynchon’s countercultural crime novel captures the humor, paranoia, and labyrinthine narrative of the source material while maintaining his own brand of loopy long-take visual grandeur and sonic pathos.
