Screening
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome

Part of Mad Max Weekend
Sunday, May 29, 2016, 2:00 p.m.

Dirs. George Miller and George Ogilvie. 1985, 107 mins. 35mm. With Mel Gibson, Tina Turner, Bruce Spence. This third installment expands upon the universe laid forth in the first two films with increasingly complex characterizations and richly imaginative art direction. Set even farther into a future ravaged by nuclear war, it follows Max as he leads a tribe of feral children in a revolt against a villainous capitalistic matriarch played by Tina Turner. The Thunderdome of the title—a gladiatorial arena in which opponents compete in airborne blood sport—is the setting for some of Miller’s most exhilarating set pieces.
