Psycho

Part of The Hollywood Classics behind Walkers
Sunday, December 20, 2015, 6:30 p.m.

Dir. Alfred Hitchcock. 1960, 109 mins. DCP. With Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, Vera Miles, John Gavin. After stealing a suitcase full of cash, Marion Crane (Leigh) hits the road out of Phoenix, freedom on her mind. But no bad blonde goes unpunished in Hitchcock’s world. Her truncated stay at the creepy, run-down Bates Motel culminates in the most iconic shower ever taken, in a sequence where precise editing and camera placement simply overwhelm. If it ended there, Psycho would be a classic; that it continues, boldly plumbing a depth of psychosis never before seen in Hollywood, makes it the stuff of myth.
