Part of The Hollywood Classics behind Walkers
Saturday, December 5, 2015, 7:00 p.m.

Dir. Billy Wilder. 1950, 110 mins. 35mm. With William Holden, Gloria Swanson, Erich von Stroheim. Hollywood was less than two generations old when Billy Wilder and screenwriting partner Charles Brackett created this noir-flavored mausoleum of a movie with silent-film star Gloria Swanson as aging movie star Norma Desmond ("I am big. It's the pictures that got small."). The casting of the great director Erich von Stroheim as her devoted servant Max Von Mayerling only adds to the film's haunting nostalgia.
