SCREENING
The Brood

Dir. David Cronenberg. 1979. 92 mins. New 35mm print. With Oliver Reed, Samantha Eggar, Art Hindle. Made after his painful divorce, Cronenberg’s self-described take on Kramer vs. Kramer follows an experimental new therapy called “psychoplasmics” that allows patients to exorcise their psychological problems by converting them into physical symptoms. Under the tutelage of a megalomaniacal guru, anxiety becomes pockmarks, fear drains flesh of its color, and a recently divorced mother literally gives birth to her rage.
