Museum admission is FREE for kids ages 12 and under
(children must be accompanied by an adult)

Celebrate Jim Henson's birthday with an afternoon packed with fun and educational activities for children of all ages. At the Fall Family Day, visitors will be immersed in the world of puppetry, with a chance to explore everything from the creation of simple hand puppets to the newest digital puppetry techniques used in current Henson Company programming.

Activities include:

Puppet making and more in the Moving Image Studio
11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Digital Learning Suite)
Recommended for ages 4+
This super-sized version of the Museum’s drop-in studio will feature activities focused on building paper-bag puppets using a variety of materials, designing Henson-inspired characters, performing “puppet karaoke” (using a puppet to lip-synch to a song), and a large-scale memory game (using oversized cards).

Screenings: Dinosaur Train & Sid the Science Kid
12:30, 1:30, 2:30 p.m. (Bartos Screening Room)
Recommended for ages 2 to 5
To celebrate its 60th anniversary, The Jim Henson Company is providing a special 40-minute compilation of episodes from Dinosaur Train and Sid the Science Kid, two shows it produces for young viewers. The compilation also includes a behind-the-scenes clip about the digital puppetry techniques used in creating Sid the Science Kid.

Throughout the day, families are also invited to explore Behind the Screen, the Museum’s dynamic, interactive core exhibition, and the popular temporary exhibition How Cats Took Over the Internet.

Related events: At 1:00 p.m., for older children (10+) and adults, the Museum will host a conversation with Rollie Krewson, the long-time Henson Creature Shop puppet designer and builder. At 4:00 p.m. the Museum will present a big-screen showing of Enchanted. Ticket purchase is required for both of these programs.
