With Lubor Tokoš, Arnošt Navrátil, František Šlégr. Jules Verne’s nineteenth-century tale of a professor kidnapped by a band of pirates who want to use his invention to take over the world is the basis of Karl Zeman’s beloved film classic. A dazzling blend of live action and animation, with an eye-popping style based on the look of old engravings, the film became a global phenomenon, playing in 96 cinemas in New York alone. This beautiful new restoration supervised by the Karel Zeman Museum in Prague will premiere simultaneously on July 10 at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, the National Museum of Cinema in Turin, Italy, and Museum of the Moving Image.
