Maldone

Part of Jean Grémillon
Sunday, December 21, 2014, 6:00 p.m.

With live musical accompaniment by Donald Sosin

Dir. Jean Grémillon. 1928, 81 mins. 35mm. With Charles Dullin, Genica Athanasiou. Wealthy Olivier Maldone prefers the working-class life and the carefree company of gypsy girl Zita, but his brother’s death forces him to take up the heir-apparent life. Grémillon combines an impressionistic approach to landscape with startlingly modern editing, psychological acuity, and class consciousness.
