Following in the post-World War II tradition of such semi-documentary thrillers as The Naked City, Side Street makes spectacular use of New York locations as the tortured protagonist wanders everywhere from Midtown to Greenwich Village, from South Street Seaport to skid row, culminating in a gripping (and symbolic) car chase through the financial district.
