THX 1138

Dir. George Lucas. 1971, 86 mins. 35mm. With Robert Duvall, Donald Pleasence, Don Pedro Colley. George Lucas made an astonishing debut with his dystopian science-fiction film THX 1138, an expanded version of his student thesis film. In a world far, far away from Star Wars, police androids use television cameras to monitor a society in which sex is outlawed, and the population is kept under control with mind-altering drugs. The film was made in a partnership between Warner Bros. and Francis Ford Coppola's new company, American Zoetrope.
