Saturday, September 1, 2012, 5:00 p.m.

With Ira Sachs in person

Dir. Ira Sachs. 2005, 107 mins. 35mm. With Dina Korzun, Rip Torn. Living a comfortable yet empty life with her older alcoholic boyfriend Alan, Laura experiences an emotional awakening when Alan’s son from a previous marriage comes to visit. Sachs revisits his atmospheric hometown city Memphis as the perfect backdrop for this multi-layered tale. Sachs draws stylistic inspiration from the overlapping audio of Robert Altman and the intimate naturalism of John Cassavetes. The film won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival.
