Tracing the story of a monk from his youth as a protégé into adulthood, and his battles with desire, anger, and cruelty along the way, the film reflects the struggle to be human in the modern world. With spectacular landscape photography and pacing that echoes the joys and sorrows of life, this classic of the New Korean Cinema is not to be missed on the big (outdoor) screen.
