Film director and musician Wasis Diop, film director and painter Moussa Sene Absa, Ousmane Sembène’s biographer Samba Gadjigo, and Djibril Diop Mambéty’s biographer Sada Niang will participate in a roundtable discussion about Senegalese Cinema, organized by Mamadou Diouf, Director of the Institute of African Studies, Columbia University. The event takes place in the context of the celebration of fifty years of independence in Senegal and reflects upon the political, social, and cultural debates, and controversies of Senegal’s first two generations of filmmakers.
