Part of Recovered Treasures: Great Films from World Archives
Saturday, January 29, 2011, 2:00 p.m.

Restored by Cineteca Nazionale, Rome

Dir. Roberto Rossellini. 1945, 100 mins.

Just a few months after the liberation of Rome, Rossellini filmed this documentary-style drama about the arrest of a Resistance leader; the film became the first postwar masterpiece of Italian neorealism. The consistent visual clarity of this restoration will surprise anyone used to the poor quality of earlier prints.

Made possible with support from the Italian Cultural Institute.

Free with museum admission.
